Mass General Brigham to Close Downtown Boston Primary Care Site
Mass General Brigham will close its only primary care practice in Boston's Downtown Crossing neighborhood on Dec. 18, a health system spokesperson confirmed to Becker's Nov. 4. The system does not own the building, and the closure stems from Boston's Office to Residential Conversion Program, which is turning 35 office buildings into 463 new housing units, including 52 income-restricted units. The site's five primary care physicians, one nurse practitioner, and patients will move to other MGB primary care locations, with no job reductions tied to this closure. The closure follows October layoffs and precedes an open-ended nurses strike set to begin Nov. 12; CEO Anne Klibanski told staff Nov. 2 that the system faces urgent financial challenges requiring structural changes, per the Boston Globe.
