Idaho Medicaid Agency Director Charron to Resign by Year's End

Idaho Department of Health and Welfare Director Juliet Charron will step down by the end of 2026, citing family health challenges, Boise State Public Radio first reported. Charron, who previously served as the agency's top Medicaid official since 2021 and took over as director in September 2025, oversaw early stages of Idaho's transition to full Medicaid managed care under House Bill 345, a shift expected to be complete by 2030, as well as distribution of nearly $200 million in Rural Health Transformation funding. Her last day has not been finalized and no interim or permanent successor has been named; Gov. Brad Little says he expects to announce new leadership before year's end. The agency administers Idaho's $5 billion-plus Medicaid, SNAP, WIC, behavioral health and child welfare programs.

Why it mattersThe leadership vacancy arrives at a critical juncture as Idaho implements its statutory shift to statewide Medicaid managed care and rolls out nearly $1 billion in rural health transformation funding, creating uncertainty for health plans and providers navigating the transition.
