Florida Appeals Court Voids Hope Florida Medicaid Grand Jury Report
Florida's 1st District Court of Appeal ruled that a grand jury report alleging the DeSantis administration misappropriated $10 million from a $67 million Medicaid overbilling settlement must be expunged, finding the confidential report was improperly released before named parties could challenge it. Gov. Ron DeSantis called the ruling vindication and urged prosecution of whoever leaked the report to CBS News Miami, while Attorney General James Uthmeier said state or statewide prosecutors could pursue charges. The report had alleged the Hope Florida Foundation funneled settlement funds to nonprofits that supported a campaign against a recreational marijuana ballot measure, implicating Uthmeier and former Agency for Health Care Administration secretary Jason Weida. The Florida Democratic Party said the ruling "doesn't change what happened" and the underlying findings stand regardless of the report's legal status.
