CMS Removes 760,000 From ACA Marketplace Over Fraud Claims

Trump administration officials announced Tuesday that they are removing 760,000 people from Affordable Care Act marketplace coverage based on alleged enrollment fraud. The government is also investigating roughly 420,000 additional enrollees suspected of fraud and imposing a six-month moratorium on new enrollment agents and brokers selling ACA plans. Officials framed the action as program integrity enforcement, but experts quoted say it will likely cause low-income Americans to lose or forgo coverage. The action follows other administration efforts to scale back federally subsidized insurance programs.

Why it mattersThe removals and broker moratorium signal tightening federal scrutiny of subsidized coverage enrollment that could foreshadow similar program-integrity crackdowns affecting Medicaid eligibility verification and enrollment broker oversight.
