CMS Opens Comment Period on Information Collection Request to OMB
CMS published a Federal Register notice seeking public comment on a proposed information collection it intends to submit to the Office of Management and Budget, as required under the Paperwork Reduction Act. The notice covers an extension or reinstatement of an existing data collection and asks for input on the burden estimate, necessity, and clarity of the collection, as well as ways to reduce reporting burden through technology. The notice does not identify a specific program or new policy change, but is part of the routine PRA process CMS follows before collecting information from states, providers, plans, or beneficiaries. Comments are due within the standard 30-day window following publication.
Why it mattersStates, plans, and providers subject to the underlying data collection should review the burden estimates and submit comments before the deadline to avoid unanticipated reporting requirements once OMB approves the collection.
