Hinson Tours Iowa Youth Addiction Facility Reliant on Medicaid

U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson, the Republican Senate candidate in Iowa, toured Ember Recovery Center, a residential addiction treatment facility for teens, and discussed addiction education and youth screening policy. Ember's CEO said about 75% of the facility's patients rely on Medicaid, and Hinson said ensuring providers can bill and get paid for youth recovery treatment will remain a priority for her. The visit comes amid criticism of Hinson's vote for the federal reconciliation law that added Medicaid work requirements, which KFF estimates could leave 5.3 million more Americans uninsured by 2034; Ember's CEO said he does not expect those changes to affect the facility's teen patients. Hinson also floated possible policy around school-based addiction education and youth screening.

Why it mattersBehavioral health providers serving Medicaid-enrolled youth are watching how federal work-requirement changes and billing policy under a potential Hinson Senate term could affect reimbursement for residential addiction treatment.
