Obama Rallies Georgia Democrats, Touts Medicaid Expansion Pledge
Former President Obama campaigned in Morrow, Georgia with Sen. Jon Ossoff and gubernatorial nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms as early voting nears its close ahead of Tuesday's election. Ossoff explicitly branded Bottoms "a Medicaid-expanding governor" in his pitch to voters, framing Medicaid expansion as a central campaign contrast with Republican nominee Rick Jackson. The rally also featured candidates for attorney general, secretary of state and lieutenant governor. With polling showing Bottoms essentially tied with Jackson, the outcome could determine whether Georgia, one of the remaining non-expansion states, moves to adopt full Medicaid expansion.
Why it mattersA Bottoms win would put Georgia's non-expansion status squarely in play, directly affecting coverage prospects for hundreds of thousands of low-income Georgians and the managed care plans that would serve them.
