Delaware Leaders Warn Federal Medicaid Cuts Threaten Coverage
At a Dover summit hosted by the Delaware Healthcare Association, hospital executives, the state's congressional delegation, and its new surgeon general discussed looming federal Medicaid cuts and rising healthcare costs. Senators Chris Coons and Lisa Blunt Rochester, along with Rep. Sarah McBride, warned that cuts and stricter work requirements under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act could strip coverage from more than a quarter of Delaware's population, including people with disabilities and nursing home residents. The nonpartisan CBO projects the law will leave 10 million people uninsured nationally by 2034 while cutting nearly $1 trillion from Medicaid over a decade. Separately, officials flagged double-digit 2027 premium hikes for Highmark and AmeriHealth Caritas ACA marketplace plans tied to reduced federal subsidies.
