Rush University System, Endeavor Health Announce Merger
Chicago-based Rush University System for Health and Evanston-based Endeavor Health announced plans to merge, with the deal expected to close in early 2027. Endeavor will fund a $1 billion investment covering community impact, academics and research, and quality care initiatives. The combined system will operate under the Rush brand, led by current Endeavor CEO J.P. Gallagher, with a 20-person board split evenly between the two organizations. Once finalized, the merged entity will include 12 hospitals, 400-plus care sites, and 46,000 employees serving 2 million patients across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana.
Why it mattersThe merger will consolidate hospital market power and negotiating leverage in the Chicago region, with direct implications for Medicaid managed care contracting, network adequacy, and provider reimbursement rates for plans operating there.
