Minneapolis 'No Kings' Rally Highlights Medicaid Work Requirement Fears

Hundreds gathered in Minneapolis's Commons Park for a "No Kings" voter-turnout event ahead of the midterms, organized by Indivisible Twin Cities, MN50501, Women's March Minnesota and the Minnesota AFL-CIO. Among attendees was University of Minnesota physician Jeff Dichter, who said he came to raise awareness about coverage losses from new Medicaid work requirements under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, warning that roughly 15% of the population could lose insurance and that costs would rise for everyone as a result. Democratic Attorney General Keith Ellison and other DFL politicians also spoke at the event, which organizers described as nonpartisan voter mobilization rather than an anti-Trump protest. The event is one in a series tied to federal election scrutiny and recent voter fraud charges in Minnesota.

Why it mattersProviders and advocates are publicly flagging that Medicaid work requirement implementation could strip coverage from a significant share of patients, a warning sign for states and health plans preparing for enrollment and revenue impacts.
