Virtual COPD Care Startup Kivo Health Raises $10M Series A
Kivo Health, a Seattle-based virtual home care company treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, raised $10 million in Series A funding led by Allumia Ventures, bringing total financing to $16 million. The company plans to use the funds for national expansion and to eventually extend its care model to other high-cost chronic illnesses. Kivo's program combines an in-home device kit with virtual respiratory therapist sessions over nine weeks, and the company says it is covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and several major commercial health plans. Kivo says it aims to serve tens of thousands of patients within two years.
Why it mattersState Medicaid programs and managed care plans covering Kivo's virtual COPD program should track its claimed cost savings and outcomes data as a potential model for reducing hospitalizations and ER utilization among chronic disease beneficiaries.
