UVA Health Buys Former State Farm Site for Outpatient Expansion
UVA Health has purchased a former State Farm operations center in Albemarle County, Virginia for $37.7 million, planning to convert the 365,000-square-foot building into outpatient care space by 2028. The move is part of a 10-year facilities plan, "Expanding Care, Enhancing Lives," and anticipates growth to 1.2 million outpatient visits annually by 2035, up roughly 300,000 from current volume. The system will spend the next six months deciding which clinical services move to the new site. UVA Health is also expanding inpatient capacity at University Hospital, including new behavioral health beds, as current occupancy runs at 91%.
Why it mattersExpanded outpatient and behavioral health capacity in the region could ease access bottlenecks for Medicaid managed care enrollees referred to UVA Health facilities.
