South Dakota Searchlight Compiles Candidate, Ballot Question Podcast Interviews

In its roundup of Searchlight Report podcast episodes, South Dakota Searchlight compiles interviews with statewide candidates and advocates on both sides of four ballot measures ahead of Tuesday's election. Among the measures is Amendment I, which would repeal the state constitution's expanded Medicaid eligibility requirement if the federal match for the expansion population falls below 90%; disputes remain over whether this would trigger immediate termination of the expansion or merely let lawmakers consider ending it. Other amendments address noncitizen voting eligibility, management of unclaimed property funds, and raising the voter-approval threshold for future constitutional amendments to 60%. The compilation links listeners to interviews with gubernatorial, Senate and House candidates as well as pro and con voices on each amendment.

Why it mattersSouth Dakota Medicaid agency staff, managed care partners, and expansion beneficiaries face a direct eligibility and funding cliff if Amendment I passes and federal match rates drop below the specified threshold.
