CMS Requires MACs to Post Quarterly Home Health Denial Data
CMS will require Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) to publish quarterly results from the Targeted Probe and Educate (TPE) program on their websites, effective Nov. 2, 2026. Contractors overseeing home health, hospice and other claims must list the top three most common denial reasons for each TPE priority area, with additional reasons optional. The change follows industry requests, including from LeadingAge and the National Alliance for Care at Home, for more consistent and transparent reporting across contractors. The requirement updates MAC reporting obligations only and does not change Medicare coverage policy.
Why it mattersHome health and hospice providers gain earlier visibility into common denial drivers, helping them correct billing errors before they trigger compliance or payment problems.
