HHS, DOJ Launch Six-Month False Claims Act Self-Disclosure Pilot

HHS and the DOJ Civil Division launched a six-month pilot letting healthcare companies, including home health and hospice providers, voluntarily disclose civil False Claims Act violations in exchange for a defined resolution path. Under the Healthcare False Claims Act Self-Disclosure Pilot Program, disclosed conduct can be resolved through a coordinated civil release of liability without a Corporate Integrity Agreement, giving providers a clearer timeline and repayment number. The program runs through April 22, 2027, covers civil billing issues only (not criminal Anti-Kickback Statute conduct), and industry groups like the Home Care Association of America are urging it be extended or made permanent. Mid-sized and multi-service providers, as well as buyers assessing successor liability in M&A deals, are seen as likely beneficiaries.

Why it mattersHome health, hospice, and other Medicaid/Medicare providers now have a defined, CIA-free path to self-report billing errors, reducing compliance uncertainty but requiring fast action within the pilot's limited window.
