Portland Nonprofit Expands Direct Cash Assistance Program for Single Mothers

Project Home Trust, a Portland nonprofit providing direct cash assistance to low-income single mothers, received a $1.47 million anonymous donation to expand its program. The expansion will serve 100 mothers and their children with $500 monthly payments for three years and extend services to a fourth county in Maine. The program targets families earning no more than 60% of area median income and helps participants navigate benefits cliffs when income increases threaten public program eligibility. Current participants in Cumberland, York, and Androscoggin counties are receiving assistance as SNAP and Medicaid eligibility changes affect vulnerable families statewide.
