Quest Diagnostics Discloses Breach of Lab Ordering System

Quest Diagnostics disclosed in an Oct. 22 SEC filing that it is investigating a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to its Quanum Lab Services Manager system, which clients use to order lab tests and retrieve results. The company learned of the breach Oct. 21 and believes an unauthorized party accessed certain patient records, though it has not disclosed how many records were affected or what data was exposed. Quest has activated incident response procedures, notified federal law enforcement, and engaged outside cybersecurity experts; it says the incident has not materially disrupted operations. The full scope of the breach remains under investigation.
