Keep Your Care Campaign Launches in NC Ahead of Work Rules
Keep Your Care, a national campaign to help people retain Medicaid coverage, launched its North Carolina effort at a Raleigh roundtable with recipients, caregivers and lawmakers. The campaign will use digital ads, community outreach and local partnerships to help enrollees understand new federal work and reporting requirements, identify exemptions and meet deadlines before they take effect in January 2027. More than 700,000 North Carolinians covered through Medicaid expansion will be subject to the rules, which require 80 hours of monthly work, education or community service and twice-yearly eligibility checks; the governor's office estimates over 250,000 could lose coverage. Separately, a federal court ruling issued the same day narrowed how the work requirements can be applied to severely ill patients, striking down a provision that would have required proof that conditions like cancer prevented compliance, a restriction the state said threatened coverage for 64,000 residents.
