White House Reviews HHS Plan to Loosen Peptide Compounding Rules
Citing an Oct. 22 Bloomberg report, Becker's Hospital Review details a proposal under White House review that would set temporary enforcement priorities letting compounding pharmacies make certain peptides without FDA targeting, provided they certify purity and identity and report serious adverse events. The plan would not formally approve the peptides as safe and effective, and adverse-event reporting would be a new requirement for traditional compounders, raising implementation questions given shared FDA-state oversight. An alternative under discussion would have FDA recommend against adding certain peptides to the compoundable substances list, preserving current restrictions. HHS sent the plan to the White House for review Oct. 14, and any final policy would go through public comment; meetings on the proposal have included industry groups and telehealth company Hims & Hers.
