Kansas Governor Candidate Holscher Campaigns on Medicaid Expansion

On the eve of Kansas's gubernatorial election, Democratic nominee Cindy Holscher rallied with Gov. Laura Kelly, former Gov. Kathleen Sebelius and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear in Lenexa, closing her campaign against Republican Ty Masterson. Holscher's platform includes Medicaid expansion alongside full K-12 special education funding, abortion rights and marijuana legalization, which she framed as having bipartisan appeal in Kansas. Polling showed her with a narrow 1-point edge over Masterson heading into Tuesday's vote, despite Kansas's Republican voter registration advantage. Kansas remains one of the holdout states that has not expanded Medicaid, so the outcome directly affects whether expansion advances in the next gubernatorial term.

Why it mattersA Holscher win would renew the push for Medicaid expansion in one of the remaining non-expansion states, directly affecting coverage eligibility for low-income Kansans and the state budget's federal match calculations.
