Optum Reports 10% Rise in Home Health Visits, Q3 Earnings
On UnitedHealth Group's Q3 2026 earnings call, Optum Health CEO Krista Nelson said home health visits rose 10% over the past year, calling it a high-performing service line with room for expansion. Optum expanded a post-acute risk partnership with a payer covering care from inpatient hospital stays through skilled nursing and home health. Optum Health revenue totaled $22.9 billion in Q3, down 10% year over year, which UnitedHealth attributed to fewer value-based care patients in markets lacking sufficient scale. Executives also cited hospice, surgery centers, D-SNPs, C-SNPs and HMOs as strong lines and said home- and community-based service growth remains elevated, though moderating, heading into 2027.
Why it mattersOptum's expanding value-based post-acute and home health risk arrangements signal how the largest Medicaid and dual-eligible managed care player is reshaping utilization and network strategy heading into 2027 contracting cycles.
