Fedorchak Wins Reelection to North Dakota's U.S. House Seat
The Associated Press projected Republican U.S. Rep. Julie Fedorchak as the winner of North Dakota's at-large U.S. House race Tuesday night, defeating Democratic-NPL candidate Trygve Hammer 60% to 34% in early results. The race was a rematch of the 2024 contest, in which Fedorchak became the first woman elected to represent North Dakota in Congress. The candidates diverged sharply on Medicaid work requirements set to take effect next year, with Fedorchak supporting the policy and Hammer campaigning on making healthcare more affordable. Fedorchak said she will continue pursuing bipartisan solutions regardless of which party controls the House.
Why it mattersFedorchak's reelection secures a vote in Congress favoring implementation of new Medicaid work requirements affecting North Dakota beneficiaries starting next year.
