Democrat Bob Harvie Unseats Rep. Fitzpatrick in Pennsylvania Race
Bucks County Commissioner Bob Harvie defeated five-term Republican U.S. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick in Pennsylvania's 1st Congressional District, with the Associated Press calling the race 53% to 47%. The district, covering Bucks County and part of Montgomery County in the Philadelphia suburbs, was one of four Pennsylvania races targeted by national Democrats as part of a push to retake the U.S. House majority. Harvie, a former educator, campaigned on affordability and healthcare protections, while Fitzpatrick had been one of two House Republicans to vote against the budget bill containing major Medicaid cuts. The result flips a historically Republican-held seat and shifts the partisan balance of Pennsylvania's congressional delegation ahead of the new Congress.
