Pennsylvania's Redeemer Health Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

Meadowbrook, Pennsylvania-based Redeemer Health filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Nov. 2, citing sustained financial pressure, rising labor and supply costs, reimbursement challenges and increased competition. The Catholic health system, which includes a 239-bed acute care hospital, three skilled nursing facilities, home health and hospice services, and various community programs, says it remains fully operational and patients should keep scheduled appointments. The system says it is encouraged by support offers from nearby major health systems but has not reached an agreement on any future arrangement, which would require court and regulatory approval. The filing follows recent leadership turnover, including the September departures of the CEO and CFO and the appointment of an interim CEO.

Why it mattersA potential acquisition or restructuring of Redeemer's hospital, nursing facilities and home health/hospice operations could disrupt Medicaid beneficiary access and provider network participation in the region pending court and regulatory approval.
