Report Finds UnitedHealth Subsidiary Count Grows to 2,807

The Center for Health & Democracy's updated "Sunlight Report," funded by Arnold Ventures, counts 2,807 subsidiaries and related entities under UnitedHealth Group as of October 2026. The update draws on 2024 year-end and 2025 state insurance filings, confirmed 2026 transactions, and SEC filings through Q2 2026. It finds acquisition activity has slowed sharply, from $13.4 billion spent in 2024 to just $98 million in the first half of 2026, while 368 entities joined and 268 left between early 2024 and the end of 2025. LHC Group (835 entities) and SCA Health (689 entities) remain UnitedHealth's largest subsidiary groupings, even as home health entities made up nearly half of 2025 departures. UnitedHealth itself scaled back public disclosure of subsidiaries in its latest annual report, listing only 10 entities versus thousands previously.

Why it mattersThe scale and opacity of UnitedHealth's subsidiary network bears directly on antitrust, vertical-integration, and transparency scrutiny facing the largest Medicaid managed care parent company in the country.
