Home Care Leaders Cite Empathy, Training as Keys to AI Adoption
Home Health Care News reports that home-based care executives from TheKey, Tribute Home Care and CommonSpirit Health at Home identified employee adoption, not technology performance, as the main barrier to successful AI implementation. A related HHCN pulse survey found 73.3% of home-based care providers are exploring, piloting or integrating AI tools, with 40% reporting no formal employee training. Leaders said framing AI as "upskilling," designating change champions or "super users," and phased rollouts helped overcome fear of lost productivity and threats to professional identity. Executives also described a productivity dip, or "J curve," that follows initial AI rollout before gains materialize.
Why it mattersProviders that serve Medicaid-reimbursed personal care populations, two-thirds of survey respondents, risk stalled efficiency gains and wasted technology investment without structured change management and training for frontline staff.
