KFF Reports ACA Marketplace Premiums to Rise 13% in 2027
KFF reports that average Healthcare.gov marketplace premiums will rise 13 percent in 2027, following a 26 percent increase from 2025 to 2026. The back-to-back double-digit hikes affect individual-market enrollees who buy coverage through the ACA exchanges rather than through employer or Medicaid coverage. The increases take effect with 2027 plan year pricing. KFF's findings highlight continued affordability pressure in the ACA marketplace, which analysts attribute in part to rising medical costs and uncertainty over enhanced subsidy extensions.
Why it mattersMarketplace premium spikes raise the stakes for enhanced subsidy extensions and could push more low-income enrollees toward Medicaid or leave them uninsured if subsidies lapse.
