Connecticut Lawmaker Hosts Roundtable on Medicaid Eligibility Changes

In a CT Mirror political news roundup, U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney hosted a roundtable in Norwich to discuss how new federal Medicaid eligibility changes are affecting HUSKY, Connecticut's Medicaid program. Nonprofit leaders reported that beneficiaries, including those with diabetes and multiple sclerosis, are confused and worried about losing coverage under the new requirements, which they said pose particular challenges for people with disabilities. Department of Social Services Commissioner Andrea Barton Reeves described state tools to help residents navigate the changes, including a new website, MedicaidMattersCT.org, with a screener that lets residents check whether the eligibility changes apply to them. No new state policy or rule was announced; the event focused on outreach and education about already-enacted federal changes.

Why it mattersState Medicaid agencies and advocacy groups need to ramp up member outreach and eligibility-screening tools as federal eligibility changes threaten coverage loss for vulnerable HUSKY enrollees, including people with disabilities and chronic conditions.
