Providence, Compassus finalize Oregon home care joint venture

Providence and Compassus have completed the Oregon phase of their home-based care joint venture, transferring Providence's Oregon home health, hospice and palliative care programs to Compassus management under the Providence at Home with Compassus brand. The Oregon addition includes 17 programs and expands the partnership to five states: Alaska, California, Oregon, Texas and Washington, following the initial March 2025 launch. The Oregon Health Authority approved the deal with conditions requiring $30 million in state home health and hospice investment over five years and continuation of Providence's community benefit programs. The companies cite reduced administrative burden for caregivers and increased end-of-life hospice visits across joint venture markets.

Why it mattersState regulators' approval conditions, including the five-year investment commitment and community benefit continuity requirements, set a template for scrutiny of future health system-hospice joint ventures affecting Medicaid beneficiaries' access to home and hospice care.
