Atrium Health Commits $340M to Expand Behavioral Health Capacity

Atrium Health, part of Advocate Health, announced a $340 million, five-year investment to expand behavioral health services, including a new 168-bed behavioral health hospital in Charlotte's University City area. The hospital, created by renovating an existing building, will serve pediatric and adult patients and add a net gain of 102 beds, with a targeted 2028 opening. The investment also funds a new behavioral health emergency department, a larger crisis stabilization unit, expanded outpatient clinics, and workforce initiatives including new psychiatry residency and fellowship programs.
