Baystate Health Completes Acquisition of Mercy Medical Center

Springfield, Mass.-based Baystate Health finalized its takeover of Mercy Medical Center from Trinity Health of New England on Nov. 1, renaming it Baystate Mercy Hospital. The deal, signed April 28, followed Mercy's search for a partner amid financial pressures including inadequate reimbursement, declining payment rates, a shift to outpatient care, and staffing shortages. Baystate integrated the 182-bed hospital, its joint venture affiliates, and 45 medical group entities, switching to a new Oracle Health EHR and launching a new patient portal the same day. Baystate's emergency medicine faculty now staff the hospital's emergency department, and its cancer center has joined Baystate's broader cancer program.
