Mississippi ACA Marketplace Premiums Rise 23% for 2027

Mississippi's average ACA marketplace benchmark premium will rise 23% in 2027, following a 37% increase the prior year, according to KFF data cited in the report. Enhanced federal subsidies that had made coverage more affordable for over 22 million Americans expired in December 2025, and KFF analyst Matthew McGough says remaining enrollees are a smaller, sicker, costlier pool since healthier people dropped coverage. Mississippi marketplace enrollment peaked at over 300,000 in 2025 and has since fallen to 135,000 among three remaining insurers, after Cigna Healthcare and Molina Healthcare exit the state's marketplace for 2027. Open enrollment began Sunday and runs through January 15, nationally with 13% average premium increases, alongside a federal freeze on new broker registrations and reduced navigator funding, plus some lawfully present immigrants losing eligibility for federal financial assistance in 2027.

Why it mattersConsumers, brokers, and navigator organizations in Mississippi, a non-expansion state where many low-income residents rely on marketplace subsidies rather than Medicaid, may face higher costs and fewer assisted enrollment pathways during this open enrollment period.
