Ferguson Urges Congress to Reverse Federal Medicaid Cuts
Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson told reporters Wednesday that, with Democrats poised to retake both chambers of Congress, he wants federal action on Medicaid, immigration enforcement and tariffs. He said last year's congressional cuts to federal Medicaid spending could cause hundreds of thousands of low-income Washingtonians to lose coverage and will shift new costs onto the state budget, which already faces a shortfall. Sen. Patty Murray said last week that reversing the Medicaid cuts is a priority for her. Ferguson will propose his first two-year state budget in December.
Why it mattersWashington's Medicaid agency, health plans and low-income enrollees in the state could see coverage and funding outcomes shift depending on whether a Democrat-controlled Congress revisits the federal Medicaid spending cuts Ferguson is citing.
