West Virginia Allocates Rural Health Transformation Funds to Recovery, Cancer Screening
West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey's office announced a series of awards drawing on the state's $199 million share of federal Rural Health Transformation Program funding for 2026. Recipients include substance abuse recovery and workforce reentry programs ($1.5 million and $1.5 million respectively), a replacement mobile mammography unit for the WVU Cancer Institute ($1.3 million), chronic disease management and rural hospital staffing support through WVU Health ($3.4 million), mental health and addiction technology for the Potomac Highlands Guild ($500,000), and a statewide teleophthalmology network at the WVU Eye Institute ($2 million). The five-year CMS program, created under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, funds state efforts to rebuild rural healthcare infrastructure. The awards are described as recent announcements rather than tied to a single effective date.
