Abby Care Raises $82M to Scale Family Caregiver Model

Abby Care, a San Francisco startup that trains and pays family members to serve as home health aides, raised $82 million in series C financing led by Transformation Capital, according to Fortune. CVS Health Ventures, Frist Cressey Ventures and Pivotal Ventures joined the round along with existing investors Khosla Ventures, Thrive Capital and Sequoia. The company operates as a Medicaid provider paying family caregivers in Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Tennessee, using clinical oversight and AI tools to document care for health systems and plans. The raise follows a $35 million round in August 2025 and aims to expand a model states use to reduce institutional care costs under home and community-based care programs.

Why it mattersState Medicaid agencies and MCOs overseeing home and community-based services should track Abby Care's expansion as a model for scaling paid family caregiving to curb institutional placement costs and address direct-care workforce shortages.
