Ballad Health Ties Nursing Turnover Drop to Medicaid Payment Gains
Ballad Health CEO Alan Levine told Becker's that the Tennessee-based system cut nursing turnover from nearly 30% to below 12% through higher nursing pay, a homegrown talent academy, childcare centers and an employee affinity program. The system posted a 4% operating margin in fiscal 2026 and is sustaining similar margins in fiscal 2027, which Levine attributed to expense management, staffing investments and revenue enhancements rather than volume growth.
