Kansas Survey Finds Two-Thirds Support Medicaid Expansion
Fort Hays State University's Docking Institute released its annual Kansas Speaks survey, finding Gov. Laura Kelly remains broadly popular even as trust in national politicians and parties erodes. The survey, based on 603 weighted responses collected between September 23 and October 16, covered dozens of topics including Medicaid expansion, marijuana legalization, immigration, education funding and data centers. About two-thirds of Kansans support Medicaid expansion, though only about a third say they think about it often as a political issue. Kansas remains one of the states that has not expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act.
Why it mattersSustained majority public support for expansion gives advocates and legislators continued leverage in Kansas's long-running fight to expand Medicaid eligibility, even though the issue has stalled politically for years.
