Ensign Group Reports Strong Q3 Growth, Plans More Acquisitions
Ensign Group's third-quarter earnings call highlighted rising occupancy, skilled-mix revenue growth, and CMS quality ratings that executives said outperformed state and county averages. CEO Barry Port emphasized the company's clinical model amid prior allegations of staffing shortfalls from a report tied to short seller Hunterbrook Capital, though no federal investigations are underway. The company ended the quarter with over $1 billion in cash and credit capacity and announced 22 new facility acquisitions, mostly in Florida and Colorado, with executives projecting 50 to 60 acquisitions annually going forward. Medicare and managed-care revenue both grew, while same-store occupancy reached 84.1%.
Why it mattersEnsign's acquisition pace and quality performance signal continued consolidation among skilled nursing operators that Medicaid and Medicare managed care plans contract with for post-acute placements.
