Bayhealth Launches $250M Expansion Plan Through 2029
Dover, Delaware-based Bayhealth is pursuing a seven-project, multi-year investment strategy called "The Next Wave" to expand capacity in Kent and Sussex counties ahead of an aging population surge, according to NPR affiliate WHYY. The largest piece is a $250 million expansion of the Kent campus inpatient facility from four to ten floors, adding roughly 225,000 square feet and 64 new private rooms, with completion expected by January 2029. Other projects include a new medical office building in Milford, bed additions at Bayhealth Total Care facilities in Milton and Smyrna, an emergency department expansion with behavioral health beds, an interventional suite, and an ambulatory hub on a former mall site in Dover. CEO Terry Murphy cited rising shares of residents over 65 in both counties as the driver behind the buildout.
