UNM Health Diverts Ambulances After Cybersecurity Incident
UNM Health System in Albuquerque is diverting all ambulance traffic and canceled all clinic appointments on Oct. 26 while responding to a cybersecurity issue. The system has not disclosed the nature of the problem, whether patient data was compromised, or whether ransomware was involved. Patients were told not to come to UNM Health facilities, to call 911 for emergencies, and to delay nonemergency care. UNM Health is New Mexico's only level 1 trauma center and academic medical center, and operates the state's largest teaching hospital along with UNM Children's Hospital, UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center, and UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Why it mattersThe outage disrupts access for New Mexico's sole level 1 trauma center and largest teaching hospital, threatening continuity of care and claims operations for Medicaid beneficiaries who rely on UNM Health as a safety-net provider.
